Team Runs with Scissors

CHECK THIS OUT!

This is from THURSDAY! I wasn't joking when I said it has been snowing up here. While it hasn't been cool enough for the snow to accumulate down in the lower elevations, there is--as you can see--a boat load of snow (about 2 feet) at the top of Mount Mansfield. The "Earn Your Turns" crew reports that there is top-to-bottom coverage.

The weather reports suggest that more snowfall is on the way. So, break out the rock boards, there's definitely some early morning hiking, followed immediately by some riding, in the future...great training for the GMARA's Frigid Infliction in March.

I love Vermont. Woo-hoo!

Team Runs with Scissors

WOW! 305 visitors since July, 2006. That's very cool. Please come again.

PS--Grambo and I got some riding in tonight after work. Probably the last single track for the season...sigh...oh well, on the upside: winter is just around the corner.

Back in the saddle...

Well, the weather out side is...not awesome. More bloody rain!!

Now, this crappy weather could get us down, and in particular, last time this year, once we finished our final race, I basically stopped all physical activity until after the holidays. In the process, I put on some extra pounds and lost all the gains I had made. Following our ragin' hike 2 weekends ago, I was in danger of falling into the same rut. My gym membership has expired, and I hadn't done anything since the hike. But, Monday I dragged myself out into the rain and ran 3 miles. Doesn't sound like much to you "hardcore" athletes out there, but 3 miles is a decent run for me. Of course, if I'm going to run the Vt. City Marathon next may, I need to kick it up a few notches. So, I ran three miles, and was terribly sore yesterday. But, I am feeling better today, and plan to throw down 3 more miles this afternoon (in the rain/snow most likely). Assuming all goes well, it'll be a 5'er on Thursday or Friday, and more running and back to the gym next week. Gotta maintain my progress this year!

So, in the next day or so I'll get started posting our 2007 schedule on the right side of the blog. We don't have many races set in stone, as we don't really know what next year will bring, but as J noted, we are planning on GMARA's Frigid Infliction in March, the Vt. City Marathon in May, and the Jay Challenge (at least parts of it) in July. Other than that, we may throw in a GOALS race, and possibly some of the Ultimates. Anyway, back to work, hoping the rain stops so we can get out for at least 1 more ride this week before we put the bikes away...

Team Runs with Scissors

Oh the weather outside is...AWESOME.

Great news: It snowed last night and this morning when we all awoke there was a coat of heavy wet snow on just about everything. The mountains look great. But alas, instead of our planned hike up Camels Hump, the Mrs. and I are going to the gym. I'm due for visit with Coach Troy.

Maybe I can get up the Hump tomorrow?

I'll post a photo of the melting snow on our yard later. In the mean time, here's a photo-for-thought from the TWRS archives to remind us why we train so frickin much in the winter.

Off belay,

Team Runs with Scissors

First, a big shot out to our pals at GMARA for their comments--thanks guys, we greatly appreciate the work you do to build the Association!

Well, we managed to take full advantage of the weekend that had previously been scheduled for the 36 hour by assembling a pretty bad ass trekking adventure of our own.

We started at the Long Trial trail head in Middlebury Gap around 8:30 p.m. Thursday night and went South. We hiked about 12 miles in the dark, over Middlebury Snowbowl and Mt. Horrid, and camped just south of Brandon Gap for about 3 hours. We got up shortly after dawn and did another 14 miles on Friday. Then Saturday morning we hiked a little over 5 miles out to the Inn at Long Trail on Route 4. A great time was had by all--especially the through hiker who got completely wrecked on Friday night and hurled next to the shelter. Yukon Jack made him yuk-on the trail!

On the way home, after beer and food at the Inn, we stopped at D's Dog House on Route 100 in Hancock and Justin ordered a Bloody Beagle. (That's a bloody Mary with a raw hot dog in it.) Epic. We'll post some photos of the trek when they're available.

Since then TRWS has been slacking hardcore, but we're starting to gear up for the Frigid Infliction in March, the Vermont City Marathon in May, the Jay Challenge in July and our still to be announced 2007 adventure racing schedule. Although, Justin and I did ride Sunday afternoon in Essex and I did manage to convince myself that watching primal quest last week was important training.

Stay tuned--things will get interesting again as we start to train for the March race. In the mean time, check out the ESPN 2 for re-runs of this year's Primal Quest.

And, I'll leave you with this recently release gem of Graham from The Bitter Pill

Now, I'm off to the gym to get back to business...

Rock on,

Gibber
